Choosing Compassion Over Judgment
It’s easy to form opinions about people from a distance.
We see a decision they made.
A mistake they repeated.
A weakness we don’t understand.
And before we realize it, judgment begins to replace compassion.
But Jesus consistently responded differently.
Throughout Scripture, we see Him move toward people others avoided. He met brokenness with grace, not condemnation. Even while speaking truth, He never stopped leading with love.
In Ephesians 4:32, we are reminded:
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Compassion changes the way we see people.
Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with them?” compassion asks, “What might they be carrying?”
Everyone is fighting battles we cannot fully see.
Some are carrying grief.
Some are struggling silently.
Some are trying to heal while still showing up every day.
Kindness rooted in Christ chooses understanding before assumption.
This doesn’t mean ignoring truth or excusing harmful behavior. But it does mean remembering that grace has been extended to us too.
Jesus didn’t call us to be harsh critics of people. He called us to reflect His heart.
And often, people are drawn closer to healing through compassion than through condemnation.
This week, ask God to soften your heart.
To help you respond with patience instead of frustration.
Grace instead of criticism.
Compassion instead of quick judgment.
Because when we choose compassion, we reflect the kindness of Christ in a world that desperately needs it.
